Choose a healthy snack!!!

October 11th, 2007

a healthy snack

Remember we are what we eat! Choose a healthy snack!!!!

Research has shown that people whose diets are rich in plant-based foods — fruits, vegetables and whole-grain breads and cereals — have a lower incidence of most cancers.

Easy Ways to Eat Better
Alas, 80 percent of us don’t consume anything close to five servings of fruits and veggies. How can you up your intake?

  • Favor dishes incorporating as many plant-based ingredients as possible — such as stir-fries, soups, salads and rice salads.
  • Snack on fruit.
  • Keep crunchy raw vegetables on hand, such as carrot sticks, jicama and pepper strips.
  • Add leafy greens such as spinach leaves and watercress to sandwiches.
  • Consider nutrient-rich squashes as side dishes.
  • Top cereal and salads with fruit, nuts, sesame seeds or pumpkin seeds.
  • Empty a can of beans or tomatoes into your favorite casserole.
  • When shopping, select items such as multi-grain bread, dried fruit salad or mixed frozen vegetables.

Keep your body healthy!

SMAIL SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

September 7th, 2007

smail-sale-flyer-3-red.jpg

All along, Tracey has been so appreciative of all of the donations and efforts in her honor. When a local church informed her that they would be donating the proceeds from their rummage sale to her, she hurriedly got as much of her stuff together as possible to add to the sale. Unfortunately, she misunderstood the date of the sale. She and I discussed how much stuff we could have donated to it - what a shame - so we decided to do our own sale.

We all have stuff that we don’t use. Some of it is still in the original package or in great shape, we just don’t use if for some reason. Or we have new stuff to replace it. Or someone gave it to us, and as grateful as we are for the gift, we simply don’t have a need for it. But we hang on to it, thinking someday we will need it, or someone we know will need it.

Well, we need it now. For Tracey. We are gathering items in good condition that we can sell as a benefit for Tracey’s treatment and healing. We have a large space to hold the "Smail Sale" - the Sewell Skating Rink in Cloudcroft, on Saturday, October 6th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. We have a pretty good start, but we would sincerely appreciate anyone who wants to take the time to gather their extra items and allow us to sell them to help Tracey get all of the necessary (and expensive) treatment she needs. Some ideas include: furniture, household items, lawn equipment, antiques, sporting goods, collectibles, electronics, music, toys, building supplies, cookware & kitchen supplies, children's clothing and baby gear,…. really, you name it! And we really appreciate anything you can give!
100% OF THE PROCEEDS will be deposited into\n Tracey's benefit account. Anything left over from the sale will be donated to a local charity, or returned to the donor upon request.
You can drop the items off on Friday, October 5th at the Skating Rink. Please call Beth at (505) 687-3655 to make arrangements. If you have trouble delivering your items, please give us a call and we'll pick it up.

Thank you for your generosity!! ***

“KALIE’S DOLLAR FROM THE TOOTH FAIRY”

August 29th, 2007

We, Off the Beaten Path, had a magical dollar donated to Tracey’s benefit fund the other day.

It was dropped in our donation can with love and a healing spirit.

Upon listening to an explanation of Tracey’s challenge, this kind Cloudcroft visitor opened her wallet and located a $1 bill she’d been saving for a “special occasion.” She said she hadn’t found that “special occasion” until that day.

toof-fairy-dolla.jpg

Writing on the dollar bill reads,

“FIRST TOOTH LOST — 18 APRIL, 2001. KALIE’S DOLLAR FROM THE TOOTH FAIRY.”

May the magic of the Tooth Fairy be with you, Tracey!

Donna & Berle

affirmation(s)

August 15th, 2007

affirmations.jpg

Tracey’s affirmations hang around her neck daily - constantly reminding her of the power of the mind - the power of love and the power that is greater than all of us.
(faith, gratitude, strength, health, serenity, just do it & laugh - Tracey’s affirmations)

—————————————————————————————————————–

Spiritual Affirmation
In spirituality and personal development, an affirmation is a form of auto-suggestion in which a statement of a desirable intention or condition of the world or the mind is deliberately meditated on and/or repeated in order to implant it in the mind. Many believers recommend accompanying recitations with mental visualization of a desired outcome. Affirmation could be viewed positively as a mobilization of one’s inner resources, or negatively as a kind of self-induced brainwashing, depending on the psychological depth and wisdom of the affirmation. For example, believers would consider “I am making more room in my life for success every day” a much wiser affirmation than “I will win the lottery today!” Affirmations are always phrased in the first person and usually in a present tense (”I am”) rather than a future tense (”I will”) in order to increase the realization of the statement for the affirmee.

Affirmations are believed to be a very powerful means of reprogramming the unconscious mind. They appear to be most effective when repeated in a quiet and restful state of mind and body, and when the desired outcome is vividly experienced in one’s mind and resulting emotions are felt. They are an intrinsic part of many New Age groups including I AM Activity and the Church Universal and Triumphant of Elizabeth Clare Prophet. However, in these groups affirmations are generally recited in flat, mechanical voices at top speed and volume, in order to elevate participants’ “vibratory levels”.

Perhaps the most often used and well-known affirmation is the word “Amen,” which can be translated simply as “so be it” or “and so it is,” affirming the truth of whatever was written or said immediately prior. While often used to conclude prayer, the word itself is neutral as to its context and exemplifies a logical affirmation more than a spiritual one.

Love & Support - Off the Beaten Path

July 31st, 2007

Friends (& those who don’t even know her) of Tracey & Matt came out in force July 11th for a benefit Off the Beaten Path had for Tracey.

otbp store

OTBP (off the beaten path) decided during a meditation that the date of July 11th would be Tracey’s Day & spread the word all over Cloudcroft that proceeds from all sales that day would go to the Tracey Smail’s Benefit Fund. OTBP optimistically anticipated $2,000 to $4,000 and ended the day at a remarkable $6,000!

Plus, friends & visitors dropped an additional $1,000 in the donation jar!

We were all stunned and speechless.
It was phenomenal, awesome, inspiring and incredibly heart warming.
